Taking the Vegas Leap: A Leap Day Wedding on 8 News Now

When Valentine’s Day 2026 landed on a Saturday, it gave hundreds of couples the chance to make the most romantic day of the year their wedding day too. I was lucky enough to be part of News 3 Las Vegas’s story on the day, written by Jane Davenport, and I’d love to share it with you.

Couples from all over the world

The story opens with Richard and Ewa Blackmore, a couple from the United Kingdom who got married on their motorcycles in the Vegas Weddings drive-thru. They were travelling across America on their bikes and ended up in Las Vegas on Valentine’s Day. As Richard told News 3: “Why not get married on the motorcycles? We just thought that would be a really cool way, and that’s just who we are.”

I love that line, because it’s exactly what a Vegas wedding should be: the two of you, doing it your way.

News 3 described me as head minister of three Las Vegas chapels, and I told them how often we welcome couples from overseas: “We see people from all over the world, today I’ve already had people from Vietnam. I have Ireland later today, which I’m really looking forward to.” Couples travelling a long way to say “I do” here never stops being special to me, especially when they’re from close to my own roots.

A whole community behind every wedding

I also talked about the wider wedding community in Las Vegas. A wedding here is never just about the officiant. As I put it in the story: “There’s so many opportunities from planners to photographers to videographers, even content creation is becoming a big thing recently, and we expect to see a lot more of that moving forward.”

I mean that sincerely. So many talented people work behind the scenes to make each day special, and I’m grateful to work alongside them.

The rhythm of the wedding year

News 3 asked me how the wedding year tends to flow. I explained, “But we always find that throughout January and after the F1, it slowly picks back up, and as soon as we hit Valentine’s Day, it’s all systems go for love is in the air.”

And it really is. From motorcycle ceremonies to chapel weddings and everything in between, no two weddings are ever the same. As I told News 3: “We do do a lot of weddings, but everyone’s special say is always different.” That’s the part I hold on to: every couple deserves a ceremony that feels like theirs.

Thank you

Thank you to Jane Davenport and the News 3 team for telling this story, and congratulations again to Richard and Ewa and to every couple who married that weekend.
